This is a hot topic in our industry on many fronts:

• The effect of movement on emotions and emotions on movement

• How emotion shows up in our bodies

• The long term effects of stress and our physical bodies

JP has been working in this area for a decade, as a trainer, movement consultant, mentor and guide, and has seen all the angles of this. The fascinating thing is that a section of our anatomy, which JP calls the ‘line at our centre’, in other words our deep core, is where a huge number of the mental and emotional challenges play out in our physical bodies.

In this absorbing session, JP will speak about the inner workings of this that we both know, and that has been revealed through his vast experience of working with people. You will never consider what we call ‘the core’, in the same way again. And you may experience some serious ‘a-ha’ moments for yourselves too! Not to be missed.

Core Training for the Real World (NZ REPS 0.5 CPDs)

Just as is happening in this summit, in order to understand something properly, we need to look at it in isolation, then put it back with the rest of our knowledge, integrate it and let it take it’s place as part of the whole. However, with physical training, we often stop at training something in isolation, and consider it as a job well done. Moreover, we can be guilty of ‘exercising’ the tissues at the centre of the body, rather than conditioning them in ways that have real world application.

Join 2019 Exercise NZ Educator of the Year, JP, as he pulls things together in a simple, fun and enlightening session, where he will explain, and show, how we can condition the core as an integrated part of our global anatomy, in ways that we use this area of our bodies every day, in life and sport.

Burpees not included (NZREPS 1 CPD)

Burpees are in a league of their own for analysis, and polarise opinion. But whenever we ask a group of coaches:

❓“Are burpees an advanced exercise?”

90% of the room says YES. If I follow up with:

❓“Do most people hate them?”

Again 90% of the room says YES 🤷‍♂️😆

So the dilemma we have is why it’s included in so many programs and bootcamps for general population, who AREN’T highly conditioned and DESERVE better from us…🤔

And before we get into the tangent of “it depends how you do them – you can modify them”, can we just ask, why not do something equally as good, more fun, and less likely to injure people? If we are professionals, shouldn’t we have more in our repertoire? Shouldn’t we BE more for our clients? 🤔

John Polley – Poetry in Motion

Award-winning educator and international speaker, John Polley (JP), will share a story of how personalising your connection with movement and exercise will take you from some very dark places, to some enlightened and joyful ones. This keynote is about why and how we should all find ways to elicit joy from our activity, with the incredible benefits it brings to our mental, emotional and physical health. In this powerful speech, JP will share the formula to connect the millions of people who currently lack activity, back to movement. This compelling message is wrapped up in an emotional personal story which will move you, in more ways than one.

Same, Same but Different (NZREPS 0.5 CPDs)

Whether you know it or not, you’re a myofascial trainer, or therapist. You can’t move a body, or manipulate a body, even in meditation, without interacting with the myofascial system. Humans ARE a myofascial system. Therefore, it’s very useful to understand the workings of this system to get the best results from it.

Join JP as he takes you through the differences of training traditionally, training functionally and training myofascially, so you can appreciate what each style brings to the system and how to use these training styles to target best results for each client’s goals. JP is a master at using your body to demonstrate his words. You will FEEL the difference during this session, not just hear about it.
